Our Social Scrum Down Programme has successfully kicked off, demonstrating a vibrant engagement from the community. The initiative focuses on promoting social interaction and physical activity among adults, particularly aimed at reducing social isolation among older adults.
The weekly sessions held at Wigan RUFC has kicked started with 13 adults including a mix of light physical exercises, team-building activities, and social interactions, creating an encouraging environment where participants can connect and support one another.
Our program has made significant headway in addressing social isolation, especially among older adults (OAPs), who are often affected by loneliness and a lack of community engagement. Research indicates that many OAPs experience feelings of isolation due to various factors, including mobility issues, retirement, loss of loved ones, and limited access to social activities.

A Social Scrum Down initiative has provided a renewed sense of purpose for many attendees.
Here are some key ways it has positively impacted participants:
Building Community: By bringing together individuals who may otherwise feel isolated, the program fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie among participants. The shared experience of physical activity and social engagement has led to the formation of new friendships and support networks.
Promoting Physical and Mental Well-being: Regular participation in gym sessions helps improve physical health, which in turn enhances mental well-being. Attendees report feeling more energized and motivated after each session, contributing to a more active and fulfilling lifestyle.

Encouragement and Support: The program encourages attendees to set and achieve personal goals, whether in fitness or social interactions. Participants often share their achievements, boosting morale and providing mutual support.
Increased Confidence: Many attendees have expressed that the program has helped them regain confidence in their abilities, both socially and physically, encouraging them to engage in more activities outside of the sessions.

In summary, our Social Scrum Down Initiative has laid a solid foundation for reducing social isolation among older adults, providing them with a sense of purpose, community, and improved overall well-being.
We look forward to continuing these impactful sessions and further enhancing their experience.
